Cleanliness In Next to Godliness - Is Talking About My Body?
You’ve heard that “cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Where did that saying originate? Did anyone ever tell you that it had to do with the state of the kitchen or the mess you left in the living room? In all seriousness, have you ever considered that it might just be related to the state of your internal body?
You may have heard that fasting is a way to cleanse your body. You’ve probably also heard that Jesus, Buddha, and many other highly spiritual beings undertook extended fasts before beginning their spiritual teachings.
But have you ever put these two things together? Have you ever considered that these great spiritual men were cleansing their bodies internally to obtain or enhance their spiritual connection? And if that’s the case, does it mean that accumulated toxicity in the body in some way hinders our spiritual connection? I actually believe it does.
Have you noticed that Adam and Eve’s fall from grace was literally from the foods that they were eating? It’s kind of funny, but they were told not to eat that apple. Yet, they ate it anyway. So, according to this story, putting the wrong foods into their bodies was the official cause of their downfall from grace. If there is truth in this Bibical story, what do you think the consequences are of regularly putting pesticides, food colorings, preservatives, genetically modified foods, and anti-freeze in our bodies? Did you know that the primary ingredient in anti-freeze is common in both personal care products and in “snack” foods.
If two thousand years ago, Jesus felt the need to deeply cleanse his body by doing a documented forty day fast, what does that say about the average person’s toxicity level today? Two thousand years ago, herbicides and pesticides weren’t sprayed directly onto foods nor leached into the water supply. Two thousand years ago, genetically modified ingredients weren’t in the majority of processed foods available. Actually, two thousand years ago, there were likely few processed foods around - and certainly nothing like the chemical combinations we have on our shelves today. But, Jesus still felt the need to do a prolonged and deep cleanse.
Cleansing is just a way to remove all of that stored toxicity from our bodies. Fasting is one way to do it. A cleanse diet, if you’re not up for fasting, can also help a great deal. Liver cleansing and colon cleansing are critical ways to remove a great deal of waste from our bodies. When you see how much stored waste comes out of you, you might be surprised. Actually, cleansing might be one of those things that you have to do for yourself to really understand how much toxicity the average person carries these days. But when you see it, it becomes difficult to deny.
